Wisconsin Supports Solar With Rebates

How much do solar panels cost in Wisconsin? What incentives are available for solar systems?

Wisconsin's state energy program, Focus on Energy, has rebates for home solar systems and associated electrical work.

Focus on Energy Rebate

Receive up to a $2400 rebate from Focus on Energy for residential solar projects in qualifying utility territories.

Solar Property Tax Exemption

In Wisconsin, any value added by a synthetic gas energy system, solar-energy system, or a wind-energy system is exempt from general property taxes. The property tax exemption applies regardless of whether the equipment is deemed real property or personal property.

A solar-energy system is defined as “equipment which directly converts and then transfers or stores solar energy into usable forms of thermal or electrical energy, but does not include equipment or components that would be present as part of a conventional energy system or a system that operates without mechanical means.”  Passive solar design elements do not qualify under these rules.

Customers may also take advantage of a sales tax exemption on the solar portion of a project. Batteries have some sales tax on the battery equipment, which is included in your project cost with Arch.

Additional Rebates

Wisconsin was the first state in the country to roll out the HOMES and HEAR efficiency rebates.

HOMES Rebate – Home Efficiency Rebates

Up to $10,000 of combined rebates available for energy reduction. This rebate is based on income qualification.

HEAR Rebate – Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates

Up to $14,000 of combined rebates is available for the electrification of home appliances and increased energy efficiency. This rebate has income eligibility requirements.

Both the HOMES and HEAR rebates require a certified contractor to complete the work. Arch Solar is a certified contractor for these programs through Focus on Energy.
