As part of our dedication to creating more environmentally friendly operations, Ampco Pumps Company has embarked on a major solar energy project with our partners at Arch Electric. In 2019, we first announced plans to construct nearly 75,000 square feet of solar panels on the rooftop of our corporate headquarters in Glendale, Wisconsin. Today, we are proud to reveal that the installation is finished!
Investing in a cleaner, renewable energy
The project–an investment of $380,000 ($600,000 before rebates and funding)–is a solid step toward more sustainable operations. At just over 1,000 photovoltaic panels, the installation is expected to result in an energy cost savings of more than 70%.
More important is the reduction in our carbon footprint. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), electricity production generates the second-largest share of greenhouse gas emissions. Approximately 62.9 percent of our electricity comes from burning fossil fuels, mostly coal and natural gas.
The projected yearly output of over 500,000 KWH (Kilowatt hours) of electricity will reduce 394 tons of CO2 output, which is like replacing 393,734 pounds of coal being burnt to create electricity. It would take 467 acres of US forests to remove that same amount of carbon in one year.
Why protecting the environment and clean energy is important to us
The project grew out of our dedication to being good stewards of the environment. We believe that maintaining a healthy ecosystem is important to the communities in which we operate, to our customers, to our employees and our families, and most of all to our planet’s good health.
