Fairfield Marriott in Pleasant Prairie Goes Solar!

The newly constructed Fairfield Marriott Inn & Suites hotel on 120thSt. in Pleasant Prairie is installing over 78kW of solar, anticipated to generate over $13,000 worth of electricity per year.  Varin Kenosha Hotel Partners LLC of Highland Park, IL has contracted with Arch Electric Solar of Plymouth, WI for their project.  The entire installation will take less than 2 weeks to complete and will be the largest solar array on a Wisconsin hotel to date.

The project will include more than 200 solar panels and generate over 90,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year.  “We anticipate the solar energy produced during the sun exposure days will offset a good chunk of the overall electric bills.  The solar factor allows us to have reduced costs in consideration of future electricity needs.  The numbers work” said David Nankin, managing partner of the developer/owner of the project.

Arch Electric Solar is designing the system for the flat roof of the new modular built hotel.  Mike Cornell is an Energy Consultant at Arch.  “Solar, in this case, adds less than 3 lbs./sq.ft., with no roof penetrations, so our engineering has calculated the impact of that with the racking, design, and roofing engineers to arrive at this solution. It’s going to be a great and wonderful system, offsetting tons of carbon emissions yearly” according to Cornell.

The solar system has been awarded $4,000 by the Focus on Energy Rebate program in Wisconsin, which lowers the total cost of the estimated $130,000 project.
