Arch Electric, Inc. of Plymouth recently completed a 133 kW solar installation on the roof of Hoffman Manufacturing Corp at 5002 Blazing Star Road in Madison, Wisconsin. This system will provide over half the electricity for the now 63,000 square foot manufacturing facility with the recently completed 38,000 square foot addition. The rest of the electricity needs come from wind power through MG&E’s Green Power Tomorrow program, which Hoffman has participated in for over 10 years.
The project began in early June of this year and progressed throughout summer, with substantial completion, inspection, commissioning, and fully operational turn over in early September. Over 360 panels were installed for this project. The company held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate their commitment to renewable energy with the public.
“We’re excited to be on the front side of committing to renewable energy for our operations,” explained Geoff Hoffman, President and CEO. “Our employees and customers see that we walk our talk, and with the Madison initiative for renewable energy we are able to contribute to that as well.”
The $220,000 project was partially financed with a Focus on Energy Business rebate for Solar and a City of Madison grant. The solar addition adds to the company’s Sustainability Plan that includes recycling nearly everything from aluminum, steel, many plastics, paper products, packaging products, and glass, using recyclable materials in their fixtures such as HDPE (what milk jugs are made from) and polycarbonate, and nearly all finishes with no VOC, such as powder coatings. Additionally, they only use no or low VOC finish on woods. Also, the entire manufacturing and office spaces only utilize high efficiency LED lighting.
