Plymouth based Van Horn Automotive has solar energy power at the new Hyundai auto dealership in Sheboygan on 5525 Racetrack Road along Interstate I-43.
The solar energy produced is expected to generate 15% of the electricity used in the high efficiency new building for the next 25 years. The project was completed in about a week with the installation of 72 solar panels, inverters, and final wiring. Other auto dealers are doing the same. Arch installed a large system on Kune’s Ford in Delavan in 2018 and has several more automotive dealership contracts in place.
According to Chuck Van Horn of Van Horn Automotive, solar is a good investment in many ways. “I have a solar system on my home that Arch did 6 years ago, and it works great. I’d like to try to put solar on all our stores. Solar is a clean form of energy, it’s reliable, and it’s cost effective.”
The $41,000 project was partially financed with a Focus on Energy Renewable Energy Competitive Incentive Program (RECIP) Business Incentive for Solar. The system is designed to reduce energy costs by $4,000 per year or more for the next 25 years. The solar addition adds to the buildings’ other attributes to conserve energy. Designed to be energy efficient, the building will provide LED lighting throughout. Customers will also notice the glass facade wall along the entrance, providing an abundance of natural light into the store.
