As an SQM Technician, you’ll play an important role in keeping our residential solar PV facilities operating at their best. You’ll be out in the field inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment and systems, while helping make sure everything is operating safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental and regulatory requirements.
No two days are likely to look exactly the same. You might be commissioning a PV system and performing insulation, I-V curve, thermal imaging, or torque testing. Another day, you could be tracking down a ground fault, troubleshooting equipment performance, reviewing system data for something that doesn’t look quite right, or working with a manufacturer on a repair or upgrade. You’ll also have opportunities to read plans, help coordinate materials, monitor customer production, and support warranty and service needs.
A big part of this role is being a problem solver. We’re looking for someone who notices the details, asks questions, and enjoys digging into an issue until they understand what’s happening. You’ll work with electrical systems, solar equipment, instrumentation, networking equipment, and a variety of tools and technologies. You’ll also interact with customers and teammates across sales, design, installation, and service, so being able to communicate clearly and professionally is just as important as being technically capable.
You don’t need to know everything on day one. What matters most is that you bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to think creatively when you run into a challenge. Things can move quickly in this role, so being organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities will serve you well.
You should have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, and a solid understanding of electrical and solar PV systems. You’ll need to be comfortable reading basic electrical and plot-plan drawings, using manufacturer technical manuals, and working with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with networking equipment—such as routers, Wi-Fi adapters, repeaters, Ethernet connections, and web-based monitoring systems—is also important.
Safety is a major part of everything we do, so a strong understanding of workplace safety practices and industry regulations is essential. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
This is a hands-on position, and you should be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions. The work may involve climbing stairs and working at heights, standing for extended periods, reaching, operating tools and equipment, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. You may also encounter environments involving electrical systems, high-temperature equipment, confined spaces, dust, noise, and other typical job-site conditions.
The role is full-time and may occasionally require scheduled or unscheduled overtime, on-call availability, light travel, or an overnight stay when needed.
