SQM Technician 

Summary of Position

The SQM Technician will assist with operation, inspection, and maintenance of site equipment and systems in a safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally correct manner. The ideal candidate will completely support the safe and reliable start-up, operation, shutdown, and maintenance of the solar PV facility’s equipment and systems. In addition, the SQM Technician will assist in troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, and instrumentation. This full-time SQM Technician position will perform all duties in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Applicants for this role must be willing and available to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime occasionally.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. React and remedy production related issues as they arise in the field
  2. Commission PV systems, including but not limited to; insulation testing, I-V curve testing, thermal imagery, torque tests and performance evaluations
  3. Troubleshoot PV system performance issues and locate & isolate ground faults
  4. Perform OEM testing, troubleshooting, repairs and upgrades/revision to a broad range of equipment in the renewable industry
  5. Read plan sets and perform take off for ordering materials
  6. Monitor, obtain, and review data from instrumentation located throughout the site, looking for variances that are outside normal operating parameters
  7. Review logs and documents, and report discrepancies
  8. Perform consumption meter installations
  9. Answer customer questions pertaining to system performance after solar has been installed
  10. Monitor customer production using multiple tools and websites (i.e. SolarEdge, Enlighten, etc.)
  11. Assist with equipment warranty and vendor RMA processes for customers
  12. Assist with handling incoming service calls along with timely case follow-up in a positive, proficiency and professionalism
  13. Provide feedback to sales/design/install teams for best practice improvement
  14. Track, update and close service requests within a customer relationship management (CRM) system

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, required

 

Experience and/or training:  

  • Highly detailed with exceptional problem-solving skills, required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, required
  • Positive attitude with an appetite to learn and think out of the box, required
  • Ability to quickly adjust to changes and thrive in a fast-paced environment, required
  • Highly organized with the efficient ability to multi-task, set priorities, and handle time management, required
  • Ability to read basic electrical on-line and plot plan drawings and use manufacturer technical manuals, required
  • Ability to be flexible with occasional on-call timeframes, light travel, and potential for overnight needs, required
  • Networking background or basic understanding including installing and configuring routers, Wi-Fi adapters, repeaters, hardwiring, Ethernet adapters, and web monitoring equipment, required
  • Familiar with safety culture and industry safety regulations, required

 

Licenses/Certificates:

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record, required
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification, preferred

 

Technology/Equipment:

  • Strong understanding of solar PV design, installation and troubleshooting, required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, required
  • Practical knowledge of electrical systems, solar electric systems and their components, required

  • Work may be performed outside in hot and cold temperatures, and variable types of weather conditions with various types of tools and equipment being utilized
  • Work sites may include hazards associated with high temperature equipment and systems, gas, low/medium/high voltage electricity, confined spaces, power and hand tools, dust; may be regularly subject to external environmental conditions such as cold, heat, dust, snow and noise from equipment
  • Noise levels may be moderately loud and will vary throughout job sites
