Construction Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Construction Project Manager to lead the execution and delivery of solar construction projects from project transition through construction, commissioning, closeout, and owner/O&M handoff. This role is responsible for coordinating project planning, schedule, budget, procurement, subcontractors, project documentation, contract requirements, and stakeholder communication to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality and contractual standards.

The Construction Project Manager will work closely with field leadership, Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, engineering teams, subcontractors, vendors, owners, utilities, Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and internal leadership to support successful project execution.

Project Planning, Setup & Transition to Construction

  • Review project kickoff and transition documents for completeness, including construction drawings, specifications, bill of materials, engineering submittals, site-specific safety plans, site-specific quality plans, budgets, schedules, permits, utility requirements, and contract documents.
  • Support project setup activities including baseline schedule development, budget review, procurement planning, subcontractor coordination, document control setup, reporting requirements, and communication protocols.
  • Lead internal project planning meetings with Site Superintendents, Foremen, Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, procurement, and other project personnel to identify material, personnel, tools, equipment, subcontractor, and schedule requirements, ultimately ensuring the team is prepared 2-3 weeks in advance of activity on site.
  • Coordinate with project teams to identify project risks, constraints, long-lead items, required decisions, and contingency plans necessary to support project objectives.

 

Schedule, Budget & Cost Management

  • Maintain Ownership, Responsibility, and Accountability of assigned project P&L.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules, three-week look-aheads, milestone trackers, and other planning tools required to manage project execution.
  • Monitor project progress against the approved schedule and work with field leadership to identify delays, impacts, recovery plans, and required corrective actions.
  • Maintain project budgets, cost tracking tools, forecasts, and cost-to-complete projections.
  • Review labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, rental, and general condition costs against the project budget.
  • Provide timely updates to leadership regarding project cost, schedule, risks, opportunities, and forecasted outcomes.
  • Support monthly project financial reviews and provide accurate information related to earned progress, committed costs, pending changes, and projected final cost.

Procurement, Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination

  • Coordinate procurement of materials, major equipment, rentals, subcontracted scopes, and vendor deliverables required to support the project schedule – as-required.
  • Track material availability, delivery dates, procurement constraints, and long-lead equipment requirements – as-required.
  • Support subcontractor scope review, onboarding, schedule coordination, performance tracking, and issue resolutions.
  • Review subcontractor pay applications, change requests, supporting documentation, and performance against contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to resolve procurement, delivery, quality, or scope-related issues.

Contract Administration & Change Management

  • Review and understand owner contract requirements, subcontract agreements, project milestones, deliverables, notice requirements, payment requirements, change order procedures, and closeout obligations.
  • Manage project correspondence, documentation, meeting minutes, change order logs, risk logs, and other records necessary to support project execution and contractual compliance.
  • Draft, submit, and track owner change order requests when project scope, schedule, cost, or contract requirements are modified.
  • Review and approve subcontractor change orders where scope, cost, or schedule impacts are justified and properly documented.
  • Support claims, notices, schedule impact documentation, and commercial issue resolution as required.
  • Ensure project records support entitlement to payment, schedule relief, or additional compensation when applicable.

Engineering, Technical & Document Control Support

  • Coordinate with Electrical Engineers, Civil Engineers, design teams, Project Engineers, subcontractors, vendors, utilities, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction to resolve design, constructability, permitting, interconnection, and field execution issues.
  • Provide feedback regarding constructability, value engineering opportunities, means and methods, installation sequencing, and field lessons learned.
  • Oversee project document control processes including RFIs, submittals, drawing revisions, specifications, meeting minutes, project reports, quality documentation, commissioning records, and closeout deliverables.
  • Ensure project documentation is maintained in company-approved project management systems such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, SharePoint, or similar platforms.
  • Review project contract conditions, technical requirements, and engineering documents to support compliance with project obligations.
  • Mentor and direct Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, and site personnel assigned to the project.

Permitting, Utility & Regulatory Compliance

  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal entities to facilitate required permits, inspections, approvals, and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate with utilities, owner representatives, engineers, and field teams regarding interconnection requirements, inspection requirements, outage planning, commissioning activities, and energization milestones.
  • Support compliance with applicable codes, environmental requirements, labor requirements, utility requirements, and project-specific permit conditions.
  • Track and communicate inspection status, permit requirements, open issues, and required corrective actions.

Safety, Quality & Field Execution Oversight

  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, safety, quality, schedule performance, manpower, equipment needs, and field constraints.
  • Support the Site Superintendent and Foremen in planning and coordinating daily and weekly field
  • Ensure project teams are executing work in accordance with safety standards, quality standards, construction drawings, specifications, company procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate quality control audits, inspections, punch walks, deficiency tracking, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and support compliance with site-specific safety plans and company safety requirements.

Stakeholder Communication & Reporting

  • Serve as a primary point of contact with project stakeholders during construction, including owners, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, utilities, inspectors, and internal leadership.
  • Lead or support weekly owner meetings, internal project meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, and schedule planning meetings.
  • Prepare and deliver project reports, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, action item logs, change order logs, three-week look-aheads, long-term schedules, and other project communication tools.
  • Provide regular project updates to the Senior Project Manager, Director of Construction, or other leadership as required.
  • Communicate project risks, delays, cost impacts, quality concerns, safety concerns, and required decisions in a timely and professional manner.

Commissioning, Closeout & Owner/O&M Handoff

  • Manage mechanical completion, substantial completion, commissioning, testing, punch list completion, owner acceptance, and final completion requirements.
  • Coordinate site commissioning, operational testing, utility testing, and owner-required verification activities.
  • Track and resolve punch list items, deficiencies, nonconforming work, and outstanding project deliverables.
  • Coordinate closeout documentation including as-built drawings, warranties, O&M manuals, test reports, commissioning documentation, spare parts, training records, lien waivers, attic stock, and other owner-required deliverables.
  • Support transition of the project to the owner, asset management team, or O&M team.

Human Resources & Team Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction to assigned Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, Foremen, and other project personnel.
  • Author and deliver annual performance evaluations and develop SMART goals for assigned Assistant Project Managers and Superintendents.
  • Author and deliver performance improvement plans for assigned Assistant Project Managers and Superintendents who are lacking in the performance of their duties.
  • Support Superintendents and Foremen in the development of timely performance evaluations and SMART goals for assigned personnel.
  • Support Superintendents and Foremen in developing performance improvement plans for assigned personnel.
  • Promote accountability, communication, collaboration, and professional development within the project team.

Process Improvement

  • Continually analyze standard operating procedures, project templates, reporting tools, lessons learned, and field execution practices for necessary updates.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project delivery, safety, quality, documentation, communication, cost control, schedule control, and closeout processes.
  • Share lessons learned with leadership and project teams to support continuous improvement across future projects.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant construction or project management experience may be considered.

Preferred Experience and/or Training

  • 3+ years of experience in solar construction, electrical construction, renewable energy, EPC project management, or related construction project management.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV systems, site development, construction sequencing, permitting, utility interconnection, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, change orders, subcontractors, vendors, project documentation, and owner communication.
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts, subcontract agreements, change management, payment applications, project reporting, and budget tracking.
  • Proficiency in project management and document control software such as Microsoft Project, Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, negotiation, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, teams, and stakeholders across various locations.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and technical project documents.
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician certification preferred, but not required.

 

Preferred Licenses/Certificates

  • OSHA 30 preferred. 
  • Drone Pilot License preferred.
  • PMP or other project management certification preferred, but not required.

  • Hybrid work setting with frequent on-site travel to construction locations.
  • Fieldwork includes exposure to varying weather, uneven terrain, active construction operations, equipment, vehicles, and other jobsite conditions.

  • May require climbing ladders, walking long distances on project sites, and working at heights as needed.
  • Travel may vary by project assignment and phase of construction.
