Solar supporters rejoice! WE Energies and RENEW Wisconsin have reached an agreement in regards to customer-owned generation and solar energy.
In this agreement WE Energies has dropped their pursuit of their fixed-cost recovery charge. This charge would have taxed PV solar system owners that generate their own electricity at a higher rate. This proposal had sparked controversy among consumers and triggered a string of protests against the tax.
In this agreement, the two entities will also meet over the next two years for good-faith discussions to plan and find further areas of agreement on renewable energy as WE Energies moves to a more sustainable energy future. One of these plans is for a utility-scale solar project. A utility-scale solar facility generates solar power and pushes it back in to the grid, supplying the utility with energy.
