INTRODUCTION The purpose of this procedure is to define the authorities, responsibilities, principal duties, reporting relationships, and measures of performance for the role of Design Specialist.

FUNCTIONAL ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of the Design Specialist is to assist the Head of Technical Operations and Head of Sales in providing consistent, high-quality, cost-effective, and timely analysis before construction. This role requires excellent attendance, a willingness to travel, the ability to work within budgets, and potentially in inclement weather. This role will work in conjunction with the Head of Technical Operations, the Head of Sales, the Head of Business Operations, engineering subcontractors, and Head of Design to develop accurate and efficient engineering documents before handing the project over to the construction team.
SPECIFIC TASKS INCLUDE:
Develop and meet design and civil schedules that comply with customer requirements.
Assist in design, quoting, and ordering of materials.
Visit sites to perform drone scans and verify roof obstructions before racking orders are placed.
Manage and submit all permits, engineering, submittals, and RFI’s as needed throughout the pre-construction process.
Contribute to environmental stewardship and a work culture focused on health and safety.
Identify process improvement strategies to support business growth.
Other duties as determined and assigned by management.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Strong customer service, Positive attitude, Highly motivated, Superior problem-solving skills.
Proficient in reading and interpreting design and civil engineering drawings.
Proficient in engineering software (i.e. AUTOCAD or Bluebeam).
Drone license required within first 6 months of hire.
NABCEP Associate certification within 6 months of hire.
PV Design Specialist certification within 18 months of hire.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Experience with Drone operations and software to interpret drone images.
Experience using Trimble-guided equipment.
Knowledge of electrical systems and utility submittals.
Proficient in reading topographical and thermal imaging or drawings.
Technical knowledge of civil and electrical engineering to accurately provide submittal requests and RFI’s.
Proven ability to work in a team environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to perform tasks with minimal amount of supervision.
Ability to perform physical tasks if/when needed.
If the candidate has no solar PV experience, we expect the candidate to perform aspects of the installation to gain familiarity. Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with co-workers, customers, the general public, etc. Valid Drivers License, with a good driving record.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Design Specialist will take direction from both the Head of Technical Operations and Head of Sales.
AUTHORITY
Authority will be determined as job skills and requirements are assessed.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
The job performance of the Design Specialist will be determined by Mangers as well as a company-wide peer survey.
